CMTC 2016

Hey guys!
So 2 weeks ago I had the awesome opportunity to attend a Canadian and Talent Model Convention in Markham, On! It was an insane weekend with many challenges, but in the end was very rewarding.

I had a lovely drive up to Markham with a good friend of mine, and when I got there I checked in to the hotel and headed straight to registration. When I had finally registered I was told that I had to submit a photo of myself for a competition known as Commercial Print. Not having this prior knowledge I had to call a taxi to take me to the nearest Staples so I could get some pictures printed. After running around like crazy for an hour I finally got them submitted haha.

The next morning (Thursday) we all gathered for Orientation, and the convention began! I decided last minute that I was going to take the Runway Workshop, and signed up. When the lady giving the seminar asked if all of us had our heels on I had to book it back up to my room and grab my 5 inch high heels and book it back. (Sidenote: I had originally packed 3 inch heels, but an hour before my departure my lovely dog decided to chew through them...)So I stuffed my tiny toes into those huge heels and stepped onto the catwalk, and while I was walking the lady would critique us on our walk and tell us what to fix. As I'm halfway down the runway my foot slipped out of my shoe and I wobbled and almost fell but kept going. I was so embarrassed, my face was flushed red!
After the first fumble, I was able to successfully walk down the catwalk even though I wear high heels once in a blue moon.
After the runway I had to prepare for my TV Commercial Competition. I had no idea that I was supposed to have a script prepared so I had to book it back to my room and search one and try to memorize it as fast as I could. When we all lined up I kept trying to remember it in my head, and when I got to the door I got so nervous! I walked into the room and stood on the red arrow taped on the floor and looked up and there were agents and scouts sitting all around the room staring at me; waiting for me to start and 'wow' them. My face flushed and I started into my commercial and fumbled halfway through.
I was so exhausted after both competitions, I headed straight to the hot-tub haha! I know that both these things don't sound very hard at all, but the emotional stress and nervousness drains the life out of you.
Rather than going to the theme dance they had planned for that night, I decided to hang out with some cool girls I had met from MIM. And we went and got some yummy Greek food.

So Friday rolls around, and it's the day of the Runway Competition! And I didn't lose my shoe haha! It was actually really exhilarating being able to walk down the runway with all eyes glued on you and your performance. I also decided last minute to join the Swimsuit competition with a cool girl I met there, and it was WAY more fun. It was so chill and relaxed. I got to walk barefoot down the runway and smile at all the judges.
After the runway competitions I lined up for the singing auditions. And the whole time in line I was humming my song so I wouldn't lose my note, and just kept going over and over it. When I got inside the room my brain decided to malfunction and start me in a lower key. I couldn't restart the song as it would be super unprofessional so I had to try to make my song sound somewhat decent even though it was so low. I know I messed up, but I just said thanks and left.

On Saturday, I had my last competition. It was called Photography Go-See. And we all lined up and took two photos of ourselves and walked around a room holding them in front of us for agents and scouts to see. We had two rooms we had to walk through. The first room was with all the International Scouts and they were very quite and serious. Some said 'good morning', others didn't even look at you. The next room was the more local agents and scouts, and they were so chill! They were all laughing and joking and every single one of them said they loved my blue hair. They all seemed like such great people to work for.
I didn't get into the singing competition because I failed so badly so I just kinda chilled around for the day and watched all the singing competitions and dance competitions. After that we all got ready for the awards banquet were we had a four course meal and they handed out trophies to all the exceptional talent and models that were there:) Then they had a dance which was tons of fun!

Sunday morning was our last morning, and immediately everyone was lining up to check to see if they had "callbacks" (where an agent or scout wants to talk to you specifically in person). I wasn't expecting to get any considering I felt like I had blown the whole thing so many times, but I actually got 4 which was really cool! 2 for modeling, 1 for singing, and 1 for acting.

After the callbacks where finished I had to check out immediately and try to find my way home. I had such a problem trying to get home traveling with my cat! 2 taxi's wouldn't take me, and I was so afraid the train wouldn't either. Finally after so much anxiety, emotional stress and taxi, train, car rides; I finally made it home late Sunday night :)

So what's now? Just waiting. I could be contacted in 6 weeks, 6 months, or maybe never at all. But the experience and adventure was so worth it and I feel like I learned so much despite all my failures haha.

Talk to you later!

The Adventure Begins!

Hello lovely people :)
So remember how I had that audition and qualified to attend a modeling and talent convention? Well the time has arrived! I arrived at my hotel and registered earlier today. Yippee!!
I felt a little bit out of my element when I first arrived. Everyone was walking around in heels, dressed-to-the-nines, with long beautiful blond hair, and here I am in my joggers, with blue messy hair. I quickly got over that fact though because I realized that it really doesn't matter. Sure, they may be prettier, taller, and skinnier, but hey I like me and who I am so really, what does it matter? Self-confidence and encouragement is definitely the best way to relieve pressure and feelings of misplacement.

When I was in the middle of registering I saw this sign for people who had signed up for photography or commercial print, and it said that they had to hand in printed photos of themselves. I was a little shocked since I hadn't had any warning of this,I spent the next hour and a half frantically trying to get some printed! And this is when I took my very first taxi ride. It was just as exciting as I had anticipated haha (except you still gotta give them money) and with the cabi's help I was able to submit them in time.

Although the competitions, seminars and workshops don't commence until tomorrow, I am so excited and so nervous for them all. There are very many people here for this convention, which is slightly discouraging but also very encouraging because it makes the drive to learn and excel that much stronger. I am so excited to learn and compete and grow my understanding of the musical/modeling industry.
My hotel room is beautiful! And my cat Beaner seems to think so too.
Well I have to go, but I will be updating you all through this, so stay tuned :)
Love y'all

|Standing On Your Golden Shore|

Sway my soul, and free my mind,
make light this heart, beating in time.
Dry my tears, and smooth my pain,
I want to feel your love again.

For I wish to be only yours,
Standing on your golden shore.

Hold my hand, and guide my feet,
Sing to me so very sweet.
Whisper gently or write in words,
The feelings that you've inferred.

For I wish to be only yours,
Standing on your golden shore.

Kiss my lips, and wipe my tears,
Guard my heart, and slay my fears.
Pick me up, and hold me tenderly,
Take my past, and make it memory.

For I wish to be only yours,
Standing on your golden shore.

My heart content, my eyes satisfied,
My hurt, anger and pride set aside.
Lost in your love, alive in your grace,
Oh Lord, take me to that golden place.

A Semi-Colon Tattoo /My Story

Let's talk about Semi-Colon Tattoos. Are they cute? Trendy? Deep? Or just the daily symbol of people struggling through their pain and surviving mental illness?

I first came to learn about the Semi-Colon tattoos by a non-profit organization called The Semi-Colon Project. On March 1st,2014 they were encouraging everyone who had ever been through (or struggling through) mental illness or anyone who wanted to show support to people with illness by drawing a semi-colon on their wrist.
I fell so in love with this small but significant symbol. It was so perfect. It was small and elegant, and yet so meaningful and encouraging.

Growing up through my teenage years I struggled through my share of illness. I was depressed for years, not that very many people could tell. I was always the smiley, happy kid that was always trying to make everyone else laugh and smile, all the while hiding my own pain inside. I had been told once when I was little that it wasn't right for me to share my feelings with others. That it wasn't right to put such a burden on other people. And for years I lived with this mentality.

Family bonds were never strong. And I always felt that I had no one to talk to and no one to turn to. I soon learned that I was an outcast in my close circles. Everything I had to say or think was contrary to everyone else, and for this I always felt like some alien trying to learn to speak English. I soon learned that it was less painful to just not talk at all rather than open up and be shut down immediately. I was angry all the time, I was hurting, I was numb.
It was deep into my depression that I started self-harming myself in any way I could. I was so numbed out I just needed to feel something. I knew it wasn't good for me, but it didn't matter to me. At that time I believed that no one would care whether I was alive or dead so why should it matter? For years I lived like this, falling deeper and deeper into misery. Until I found that writing music helped me cope, and allowed me to express my pain without physical harm. And for that reason I poured my heart into writing and recording songs and I slowly started getting better. And today in 2016, I am completely healed. My scars are almost faded away. My heart is healing too.
I got my Semi-Colon Tattoo September 14, 2015.
It is the most beautiful and rewarding tattoo I have. Every-time I see it on my wrist I remember the things I have survived through. The situations, the memories, the pain, the scars. And my heart aches when I see someone else's scars, and see their pain. It just makes me want to wrap my arms around them and cry with them, and let them know that they aren't alone. And if you're reading this, please know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! And you are so loved! I know life tries to knock us all down sometimes, but life is so beautiful and worth living! And maybe you wont be able to see through the pain today, or tomorrow, but I promise you it doesn't last forever!
I am so encouraged and blessed when someone I have never talked to before comes up to me and starts talking to me about the things they've gone through and how even just seeing my tattoo and knowing what it means shows them that I am someone that will understand them and someone they can talk to.
Keep your chin up beautiful people!Be strong and be happy.
This is a song I wrote Broken Beauty for Self-Harm Awareness day. If you would like, take a listen.

Love you guys!

Pop Punk Shoot with @LaurenSawkinsPhotography !

Hey Guys!So the other day I did this awesome photo-shoot with a friend of mine, and her pictures are really great! You should totally look up some of her pictures on the net!
FEATURED in this blog post is the classic chic, pop punk, edgy look. It really is quite simple, and super fun! All you have to do is throw on some kick-ass shoes(preferably with studs), some ripped jeans, a black leather jacket, some layering and voila! You can also complete the outfit with certain accessories including a big chunky foreign necklace, a snap-back or beanie.
The thing I loved most about this shoot was the fact that I didn't feel like I had to be anyone other than me. I've always been such a tomboy and skater kid my whole life,so naturally this look was a lot easier for me to put together & wear.
Here are some photos from the shoot! Hope you like and enjoy them! If there is a certain style you'd like a blog done on, you can just shoot me an email me at ravinesmusic@gmail.com!
Til next time peeps!

This is a good look for both fall & winter. Too cold? Throw on your jacket and still look BA. Too hot? Keep the jacket off and work in some cool layering to punk-up your outfit even more!

Snapbacks,Long-boards,Layering,
Punk it up your way!

The makeup chosen for this shoot mostly consists of Covergirl Cosmetics, & drug pharmacy products. The easiest way to punk up an outfit? Dark eye-shadows & liner!  With this look, anything black is always acceptable! But be careful how far you go with the liner and/or lipstick as you risk crossing into goth style.

Need more inspiration? Add some favorite Band Tee's & work your own DIY magic! I personally ripped these black jeans with a knife and a cheese-grater! Mesh, rips, studs, it's all awesome!

Hope you enjoyed this blog! :) And remember to be your own super punky self!

Audition Day & Results!

Hey Lovely people!
So last month I signed up for a modeling & music audition in London, ON.  Pretty freaky right? Well I thought so. The audition finally took place almost a week ago. I remember all week I was freaking out inside while trying to seem cool and relaxed on the outside. Thoughts constantly running through my mind like, "What do I wear? What do I sing? What do I do about my tattoos? What if I'm not good enough?". The entire week was the most stressful week I have ever had in my entire life. I finally picked a song, and practiced it over and over again.
Even though it felt like it never would, the Audition day came! I left my job at a little shoe factory a couple hours early, went home and practiced, and when it was time to go I hopped on the train to London with my boyfriend and my guitar so excited about what was to come, and dreading it at the same time. When we got to London we hopped on the bus to the mall so I could find something nice to wear. I picked out a nice pale blue-striped top and a big chunky gold necklace to wear with my black leggings and knee-high boots.
On the way from the mall to the audition we took the wrong bus and I was freaking out like crazy! I felt so sick, and worried I was afraid I might throw up. Luckily, my sister had just gotten off work and came to our rescue.
When I got the the modeling agency where the auditions were being held, my heart kinda sank a little in my chest. What a line-up of so many beautiful girls all trying to audition for the same thing as me! I was a tad bit confused though because I had read on the website to wear very minimal makeup for the audition and some people were so decked out in it, that I felt like maybe I had missed the memo or something. I definitely felt a bit out of place as girls strutted by me and gossiped about paying $700 for their dresses.
I filled out my form, and waited in line with everyone else, guitar strapped to my back, waiting to have my picture taken and to be interviewed. My cute boyfriend and sister waited in the crowd making funny faces at me, making me giggle and helping reduce my nervousness. I finally got to the front of the line and just tried to be as myself as I could possibly be. I made the photographer laugh as I awkwardly tried to figure out whether I should be smiling or serious-faced and I think she got a picture that was in-between me smiling and laughing like an idiot. The lady who interviewed me was very sweet, and very attentive to everything I was saying. She told me that if I wanted to do a music audition that I would have to submit an online video. I was confused, I had read through the whole website and never read anything about submitting videos. And I was a bit upset since I had practiced so hard, and lugged my guitar everywhere all day, but oh well! She asked me a few brief questions about why I had chosen to come to the audition and why I wanted to be a model/musician. I told her about how much I loved to model and do photo-shoots and about how music was my passion, and she nodded with a pleasant smile. After a few brief minutes I took my seat with 90 other girls to sit and listen to a PowerPoint about the company hosting the audition and what they were all about. And they told us at the end of the night that in a few days we would get our audition results.
It was a really different kind of experience, one I'd never experienced before. But I was excited to see in a few days how I did and if I qualified to attend their modeling and talent convention where they teach you how to be a professional model & musician.

And a few days later, I heard back! I had qualified! Yay! I got the phone call 3 days later and listened in disbelief when the receptionist told me I had qualified to attend the convention. I was exploding with happiness! All those beautiful girls, all my worries, my awkwardness, my make-up-less face, and they picked me to go!  No way! Still having a hard time believing it 3 days later haha :)
Just thought I'd share this little tidbit of my life, as I am very excited to see what is going to happen this year! Wishing and hoping for good luck and the ability to pursue this future!

Beginning Blogging!

Hello Everyone!

This is my first blog, I have been wanting to write one for forever but never had the time to commit to it. Now I do!Yay!

Just a little information about me :

My name is Adelaide! My artist name on various sites is "Ravine". I am a 19yr musician and aspiring model from Canada, On.

I have two adorable little cats and enjoy spending my time reading, longboarding, modelling and of course writing and performing my own songs!

I have been performing for as long as I can remember. First in a band with my family called "Simplesong" and afterwards through school. I play guitar, piano, sing and make covers of various pop songs on Youtube.

Anyway, I am so excited to be starting this blog which will consist of many different things, mostly: music, beauty, modelling, and random thoughts :) Hope you enjoy!
